Project: Black Barn
Client: Barlavington Estate
Service: Structural Surveying
Cowan Consultancy were approached by the project’s Historic Buildings Consultant to assist with obtaining Listed Building Consent on this project.
The proposals were to convert a Grade II listed barn into a usable commercial space. The structure is a five bay oak framed barn and believed to have originally been constructed in the 18th century for agricultural use.
Although later additions and alterations have been made throughout the years, much of the original fabric survived.
Our involvement was to assess certain structural elements of the barn and propose / justify structural remedials which are in keeping with the age and style of the barn.
Our report was provided as part of the Listed Building Consent application, with consent subsequently being granted.
