Cowan Consultancy have provided civil and structural engineering consultancy services, throughout the last decade, to Home Grown Hotels as they have grown their portfolio of unique hotels.

Buildings of historical and heritage interest seems to be the criteria for The Pig Hotels, therefore converting each building into a hotel came with its own challenges. A site inspection at the start of each project was essential to determine the existing structure, and regular inspections throughout each project were necessary as and when certain elements were exposed.

A great emphasis was placed on retaining the existing character of the buildings, therefore structural schemes had to be designed sympathetically.

The age and remote location of these buildings, often meant that no mains drainage was present. This meant that foul drainage had to be treated and discharged on site via drainage fields.
